Ten Different Eagles Players Score in 10-2 Win

Mikkeli, Finland. – Johnathon Ouellette (Ottawa Canada) scored on a power play goal for the Eagles at the 2:14 mark of the first period. Shane Heffernan (Kitchener Ontario) flipped a nice pass to Johnathon who walked into the middle and shot. Forwards Kenneth Greer and Hank Levin were screening the goaltender.
"It was quite amazing that 10 different guys scored," said Keith McAdams, head coach of the Varkaus Eagles. "We were tired yesterday; it has been a long week for the guys, but everyone showed up to play today. As you can see from the results we have a balance team this season. We have a bunch of hard working guys with good potential who want to be here in Varkaus Finland. We will spend this week working on team systems.” The Eagles next game is Saturday in Polvijärvi.
Alex Hudspeth (Hagerstown, Maryland) scored a short handed goal with a shot from the slot at 12:18 in the first period. Dan Rice forced a turnover deep in Oilers defensive zone and Alex jumped on loose puck and he scored is second goal in two nights.
The Eagles Joshua Ouellette (Ottawa, Canada) scored at the 13:12 of the first period. Lou Sarcone pressures the Oilier defense and caused a turnover. Jeff Brannstrom (Hollywood, California) pick up the loose puck and made a perfect pass to Colin Port who made a quick pass to Joshua Ouellette for the one time shot and goal.
Kenneth Greer scored his first goal of the season @ 14:32 on a turnover. The Eagles where forecehcking and playing physical all night. Hank Levin (Lido Beach, New York) and Marc Lacombe (Ottawa, Canada) made a nice check in the offensive zone and made three quick passes for the goal.
Collin Port (Kamloops, BC) scored at the 15:34 mark of the first period. Paul Gagnon and Jamie Wicks assisted on the goal.
Paul Gagnon (Troy, MI) scored his first goal of the season @ 30:53 mark of the second period. When Collin Port carried the puck into the zone wide on a two on one. He made a saucer pass to Gagnon who was all alone in front of the net.
Dan Rice (Saratoga Springs NY) scored his first goal of the season 31:21 point in the game. Danny carried the puck into the zone and made a nice cross and drop pass to Johnathon Ouellette. Johnathon gave the puck right back to Rice who put it behind the Oilers goaltender.
In the third period at the 44:01 mark Jamie Wicks (Fort Collins, Colorado) picked up the puck behind his own net and scored on an end to end rush. Collin Port assisted on the goal. Three minutes latter Shane Heffernan (Kitchener Ontario) scored his first goal of the season. Jamie and Shane went on another end to end rush to score.
The Oilers Antti Aikas scored an unassisted goal 47:15 point of the third period. The Oilers scored on a 5 on 3 power play @ the 47:45 mark of the third period Kimmo Hokkanen scored the goal. Petteri Naumanen and Sami Kallio assited on the play.
Shane Degrace (Moncton, New Brunswick) ,scored his first goal of the season at the 58:55 mark of the third period. Paul Gagnon and Jamie Wicks assisted on the goal.
NOTES:
The Eagles out shot the Oilers 34 -23
Dan Earles (Kitchener, Ontario) played the goal the first period and shut out the Oilers. Jack Hartigan played the second and third period of the game surrendering 2 goals.

Eagles Win First Game Beating RU 5-3

Rantasalmi, Finland. – Lou Sarcone (Marlton, New Jersey) scored the first goal of the 2008-09 season for the Eagles at the 11:33 mark of the first period. Collin Port (Kamloops, BC) and Joshua Ouellette (Ottawa, Canada) assisted on the power play goal.
"This was a good start and win for the Eagles," said Keith McAdams, head coach of the Varkaus Eagles. "We have had only a few practices, but I can see we have good hard working guys. There were a lot of positives to build on from our first game. We will definitely get better as the team gets our systems in place. We play Saturday in Mikkeli which will give us another game under our belt before the start of the season next week.”
Josh Levesque (Ottawa Canada) scored with a shot from the point at 13:49 in the first period. Paul Gagnon (Troy, MI) assisted on the goal and Shane Degrace (Moncton, CA) did a great job finishing his check and screening the goalie.
RU scored a power play goal at the 19:37 of the first period. The goal was scored by Olli Linsen and Arttu Reponen assisted on the play.
In the second frame, Alex Hudspeth (Hagerstown, Maryland) picked the corner from the slot and beat RU goalie Severi Silvennoinen with a snap shot into the top-left corner. Josh Levesque assisted on the goal.
Lou Sarcone scored his second goal of the night at the 21:45 mark of the second period. Josh Levesque took the shot from the point and Collin Port jumped on the rebound. RU scored their second goal of the night at the 28:09 mark on a defensive zone mistake. The Eagles left their goalie Dan Earles (Penetanguishene, Ontario) all alone in front of the net. RU Juho Nykanen score on the rebound. Tommi Falck and Jani Appelgren assisted on the goal.
Collin Port scored at the 36:01 mark of the second period when he took a wrist shot over the outstretched glove of RU goaltender Jani Muhonen. Lou Sarcone assisted on the goal.
RU scored their third goal on offensive rush at 44.03 point in the third period. Tomi Naukkarinnen scored the goal on a nice passing play created by Arttu Reponen and Toni Kohonen.

The Eagles out shot RU 39 -29 margin
John Barrow (Kitchener, Ontario) played the Goal the first half of the game giving up one goal. Dan Earles played the second half of the game surrendering 2 goals.

Eagles Start Practicing and Are Enjoying the Weather:

The Eagles stated practice Thursday September 4, 2008. Last season the Eagles started training camp on August 16, 2007. Most teams in Finland started on ice practice the last week in July.
"I am really happy with the guys this season," said Keith McAdams, General Manager. "Our team is younger, faster and every guy has a great attitude."
The player spent the last few days becoming familiar with living in Varkaus. Most players have purchased bikes to get around in the city. Some players will be using team cars and others will be taking the city bus. The housing situation this season is good. The apartments are about 1.2 kilometers from the arena. The apartments were fully furnished and are much bigger than last season. The team seems to be working hard and enjoying Finland.
The Eagles will practice 9:15-10:15 Monday through Saturday. The players attend school from about 11:15 to 4:00 PM during the week.
Notes:
The Eagles are looking to add one or two defense to the squad over next few weeks.
The Eagles will play two game on the road this coming weekend. The Eagles faceoff Friday September 12, 2008 against RU in Rantasalmi and Saturday September 13, 2008 in Mikkeli against Oilier. Both Games are scheduled to start at 18:30.
The Eagles Have Landed In Helsinki Finland:

The Varkaus Eagles officially started their second season today when twenty one players from North America arrived in Helsinki Airport. "It is a long day for everyone, most players will be traveling 10-18 hours to just arrive here in Finland," said Keith McAdams, General Manager. " Then we have another 4-5 hours to Varkaus and the players then need to move into their apartments."
The players started school September 3, 2008. The players had a busy first two days meeting the media and adjusting to their new home in Varkaus Finland. The Eagles attended school orientation and were met by the media at Savonia University. All the players attend school full time while playing Hockey in Finland.
The Eagles will practice 9:00 am Monday through Saturday at the Vakaus Ice Hall.
