Return Date Will be Set June 3, 2008

The Eagles sent a commitment letters to FIHA and Local office confirming their spot in Second Division for 2008-09 season. There will be a meeting held June 3, 2008 to determine the starting date for the league. The returning date will be announced to the players no later then June 4, 2008. The Eagles have petitioned the League start later then the other FIHA teams. The players housing accommodations will be set up over next few months. This season the Eagles players will all live in separate apartment buildings. The team will be organizing apartments on individual basis. The apartments will be secured for players after all paper work is complete.The Eagles announced today they will sign a maximum of 20-22 players for the 2008-09 season. Details on the new partnership and affiliations will be available shortly. The FIHA approved the Eagles to use 5 Finnish players on a temporary basis. The FIHA and the Eagles agreed on the terms for the Eagles to broadcast games for the 2008-09 season.

Eagles Go Global


The Varkaus Eagles Hockey Club will be going global. The Eagles will be announcing a partnership in the next few weeks. The program will feature the following: Educational & Hockey Exchange Program between North America & Europe. A Coaching Exchange Program for European & North American Coaches. Affiliate program with 6-8 Junior teams in North America. We are in the process of creating affiliate agreements with other European and American clubs. The Eagles have created a program where European teams can send players to the North America. The European exchange program is for players 21 and under. The Eagles are moving towards an affiliate agreement with a professional team in Europe and the USA.

NCCC Star Goalie, Dan Earles Signs With Eagles









For the past three years in a row Dan Earles has brought his teams to the Championship. He won two Ontario Hockey League Championships and Regional Championship in three years. This past season he was instrumental in NCCC making it to the Finals of the NJCCA National Championship tournament. Dan played his minor hockey with PENETANG MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION INC before moving on to NCCC.

Eagles Expecting Great Things From Larrabee





The Eagles are proud to announce Adam Larrabee will be returning to the Eagles for the 2008-09 Season. "Adam is the type of player we want to build our club arround." Said Keith McAdams, GM & Coach of the Varkaus Eagles. "He has great speed, skill and potential. He is a character guy that show up and works hard every day." Adam came to the Eagles in January 2008. The Eagles staff expect Adam to be on the top two lines and be a leader this season.

Adam comes from the City of Beverly which is in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. Berverly is a resort, residential and manufacturing community, which includes Beverly Farms and Prides Crossing. Beverly is located on the North Shore, 17 miles northeast of Boston. Adam played Junior "A" &"B" for the Exeter Seawolves. He play two year with UMass Boston Hockey before signing with the Eagles.

Greer Returning to Eagles











The Eagles announced today that they will be renewing the contracts of Kenny Greer. "Kenny is the most improved player on the club."Said, Keith McAdams, GM & Coach. It was a direct result of Kenny being one of the hardest workers in school , the gym and on the ice. By the end of Febuary he battled his way up to a spot of the second line with Kent Merriam and Adam Larrabee."

Kenny played most of the first half of the season with Warkis, the Eagles farm team. He lead the team in scoring while there. Kenny had 5 goals 4 Assists in 14 games with Warkis. He was called up to the Eagles three times during the first part of the season. Kenny's role with the Eagles was a checking center. When the Eagles moved up to First Division in January, Kenny's role changed dramatically. His entire game improved and he earned a spot on the second line.

Kenny is from Taos in the north-central region of New Mexico. Taos is known for the desert and the ski resort of Taos Ski Valley. Kenny played Midget AAA hockey for the Pikes Peak Miners before signing with the Eagles. Kenny was the first player in the history of Finnish hockey to come from Taos New Mexico. The Eagles look forward to his return for the 2008-09 season. The Eagles expect Kenny to be impact player for the organization this season.

Eagles Sign Top Prospect Colin Port From NCCC:



The Eagles are excited to announce the signing of Colin Port from North Country Community College. Colin score 21 goal and had 15 assits for a total of 36 points. The 6-0 forward lead the Saints to the Finals of the NJCCA National Championship tournement. Colin lived and played youth hockey in Kamloops, British Columbia. The Kamloops area is famous for rainbow trout fishing, Guest ranches, and cattle ranches. The city itself is located where the South and North Thompson Rivers meet, hence the name "Kahm-o-loops", the Shuswap Indian word for "meeting of the waters". The surrounding countryside is a combination of dry forests, grasslandsand desert like hills. While forestry has now surpassed ranching as the primary industry, ranching is still an important component in the makeup of the area.

Eagles sign Daniel Barnes From Vaughn Vipers


The Eagles add size and strength to line up when they signed Daniel Barnes. Dan is 6-3 and weighs 215 pounds. Dan played Junior "A" Hockey last season for the Vaughan Vipers in Ontario Canada. Dan is big tough defenseman, who likes to use his body. Dan lives in City of Allen, Texas with his family in the off season. The Eagles are getting a stay at home style defenseman, who will do the job in his own end. He is known for playing the body and making the simple play. "Last season we lacked both toughness and defensive-defensemen on our club." Said Keith McAdams, Head Coach & General Manager. "We are proud to add Dan to the team.

Eagles Sign Paul Gagnon:




The Eagles are proud to announce the signing of Paul Gagnon from Buffalo State College. Paul is Graduate of Buffalo State and will be working towards his Masters Degree while playing hockey in Finland. Paul is certified to be a teacher in the USA, and he plans a career in Education . “Paul has a proven track record of leadership and academic success," said Keith McAdams, GM & Coach of the Eagles. "Paul will be adding character and experience to our club.”
"He is a great kid, who definitely wants to take advantage of the opportunity of playing for the Eagles organization," said Jason Greenway, assistant coach of Buffalo State College. "Paul plays with a lot of energy and will contribute on both ends of the ice."

Feature Story on Alex Hudspeth #52


























Alex lives in Hagerstown Maryland. The city is located in Washington County, Maryland. The city has a population of 36,687. It is locates on the edge of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area is a consolidated metropolitan area consisting of the overlapping labor market region of the cities of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.

In the off season Alex spends most of his time traveling around the United States to attend car shows. If Alex is not in the gym, or on the ice, he will be working on cars. Alex is somewhat of a celebrate when it comes to cars. He has been written up in magazines and is well known on the car show circuit.

Alex is one of the hardest working players on the Eagles. It was not uncommon to see him spend an extra hour or two training, after everyone else went home. The Eagles are looking forward to his return for 2008-09 season. The Eagles coaching staff is expecting great things from Alex this season.

Feature Report on Chet Ullrich:





















Chet suffered a season ending injury for the Eagles in December 2008. He return to school in the USA and has been certified as a strength and conditioning coach. He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. He started up his own business this spring. He is providing strength training services to pro and amateur athletes.

Chet will be returning this fall to play for the Eagles. He will have a duel role for the club this season. He will serve as Strength and Conditioning Coach and as a player. If Chet can not return to action, he will serve as assistant coach.

"Eagles Players Stay and Sign Hundreds Of Autographs."


The Eagles have been quietly going about business in the off season. We have been signing players. We will continue to sign players over next few weeks. We will be adding a new coach and marketing director to the team. We have been negotiating with potential partners and investors. We have been discussing affiliations program with pro and junior teams in the USA, Canada and Sweden. We will have a TV contract and Internet deal for the 2008-09 season. We agreed to terms with the FIHA to allow us to air the games. We signed a new equipment deal that will be announced in next week. The FIHA will be allowing the Eagles to use a maximum 5 Finnish players on temporary basis during the season. We are in the process of organizing new housing for players for the 2008-09 season.
